We begin by loading the first tier. Michael McCarthy puts in a high shelf. |
Then we load the second and third tiers. Mark takes a final look before we start putting up the door. |
We stoke the kiln with wood for about 15 hours, cool for two days, and then we can finally unload. |
Here are the finished second and third tiers. As you can see from the cones packs, the top of the kiln was hotter than the bottom but the pots seem equally nice. |
Then it's time to clean up. Daniel Garretson and Maya Machin don their masks to scrape the shelves. We're ready for the next firing! |
